Herbs That Can Help You Stop Snoring

Nearly half of the adult population snores or know someone who does. Snoring may be a funny topic in family gatherings but for those who suffer from it, it certainly is not a laughing matter.

Snoring Man

Whether you are the one who snores or the one who has to listen to it all night, you need to deal with it ASAP. If you’d rather try natural treatments first, here are some herbal remedies that can help treat the underlying causes of snoring.

Peppermint

Peppermint is an excellent herbal decongestant. It can clear mucous, opening the air passages. The menthol contents of the herb can soothe the throat and sinuses plus it can help loosen the phlegm. If you don’t want to drink the tea, you can just put a few drops of peppermint oil into an air diffuser or on your pillow.

Lavender and Chamomile

Both lavender and chamomile are known for their stress-reducing properties. They also happen to be two of the safest ways to treat several sleep disorders naturally. To help you sleep better and alleviate snoring, drink chamomile or lavender tea before hitting the sack. Not a big fan of the concoctions? Add a few drops of lavender and chamomile essential oil into a diffuser and place it on your nightstand for a good night’s sleep.

Chamomile Tea

Spearmint

This herb relieves snoring by treating indigestion. Indigestion is just one of the many reasons why a person snores. Spearmint can help eliminate excess acid in the stomach, decreasing your chances of snoring. You can find this herb in powder, oil, liquid, tea and capsule form.

Bitter Orange

Many people snore because of nasal and sinus problems. When air is constricted, it causes the mouth to open and the palantine uvula to pulsate. Eating an immature bitter orange may help with this problem according to some studies. It is loaded with vitamin C which can help boost the immune system. Stronger immune system means clear sinuses and clear sinuses means less chances of snoring.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus works in the same way as peppermint- it helps open the air passages by clearing the mucous. To enjoy the soothing benefits of eucalyptus, put a few drops of the essential oil into an oil warmer or diffuser. You can also use a steam inhaler to ingest eucalyptus through your mouth and nose. This can help clear your sinuses, helping you to stop snoring.
